Your Kakips sneakers are made to order, just for you. So you might as well make them last! A few simple habits are all it takes to keep the pattern bright and your shoes looking like new. Here is our guide, depending on the material of your pair.
First of all: check the “Materials & care” tab on your model's product page (or our Materials page), and always test a product on a small, hidden area before applying it everywhere.
Good habits, whatever the material
- Clean regularly: a quick brush after a dusty day stops dirt from setting in.
- Act fast on a stain: it comes out much more easily while it's fresh.
- Remove the laces before cleaning and wash them separately, by hand in soapy water.
- Never use heat to dry them: no radiator, no hairdryer, no direct sun. Heat can warp the shoe and dull the colours.
- Stuff them with paper towels (without ink) while they dry so they keep their shape.
Leather sneakers (Prestige and Urban collections)
- Dust off with a soft brush or a dry cloth.
- Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a drop of mild soap (such as Marseille soap). Work in small circular motions, without rubbing hard on the pattern.
- Rinse by wiping with a clean, barely damp cloth, then dry by dabbing with a dry cloth.
- Let them dry in the open air, at room temperature.
- Nourish the leather from time to time with a colourless cream or lotion to stop it from drying out and cracking.
Avoid: the washing machine, soaking, harsh household products (bleach, degreasers) and solvents.
Canvas sneakers (Évasion collection)
- Dry brush to remove dust and dirt.
- Prepare a bowl of cool or lukewarm water with a little mild soap.
- Clean with a soft-bristled brush or a sponge, dabbing rather than rubbing on the printed areas to preserve the pattern's brightness.
- Rinse with a clean, damp sponge, without soaking the canvas.
- Dry in the open air, in the shade, stuffed with paper towels.
We advise against machine washing and tumble drying: they wear out the canvas, the glues and the colours.
What about the soles?
For bright white soles, an old toothbrush with a little soap, or a paste of water and baking soda, works wonders. Rinse with a damp sponge and avoid spilling over onto the pattern.
Protect them so you clean them less
- A waterproofing spray suited to the material (leather or textile), applied to clean, dry shoes, limits stains and moisture. Test it on a hidden area first.
- Store your sneakers away from direct light, which can fade colours over time.
- Rotate your pairs: letting your shoes “breathe” for a day between wears makes them last longer.
With these habits, your pair will stay with you for a long time. And if you're still torn between leather and canvas, compare our Prestige, Urban and Évasion collections.
